After a brief, but refreshing break, we're back this week with a song all about the gloriousness of God. Praise to the Lord, the Almighty is one of the best known hymns in our hymn books, but did you know it was originally German?
Brace yourself, this episode has us puzzling over accusations of 'muscular Christianity' (yeah, we're not sure either), asking whether it's possible to compete with J. S. Bach's musical skills (probably not), and digging up history as we find out what this song has to do with fossils of all things (it's ironic really). Join us as we explore this hymn of praise!

If you've got those post-weekend blues, we're here to tell you: it doesn't get any better than this! Today, we have for you the simple classic, Jesus Paid It All.
This hymn has a wonderful combination of rich lyrics and a pretty tune, and has a satisfying providence about its beginnings. We find ourselves talking about why some people have reservations about 'choruses', the weird phenomenon that is eggcorns, and, of course, the abundant grace of God. There's so much we're still learning and figuring out, come learn along with us.

Have you had any songs stuck in your head recently? We've both had a particular hymn we just haven't been able to shake. Last time we were together, the minute one stopped thinking about it, the other started singing it and it was back to square one! But do you know what we do when that happens?
We make an episode about it.
His Mercy is More may be a (very) recent hymn, but it's packed with good theology and edifying lyrics, all set to a memorable tune. If there's anything you want buzzing around your head all week, it's the truth that Christ's mercies are greater than our sins.

As you know, we Hymnpartial ladies really love Scripture, so we're delighted to spend this week talking about How Firm a Foundation.
This is no stuffy classic, it's a wonderful song that talks about the beautiful gift the Bible is, often lifting lyrics straight from Scripture itself. In a world that tries to undermine the Word of God, this is the perfect hymn to remind us to take our Saviour at his word and trust what he has said.

As we discuss the age-old classic, Rock of Ages, we discover that Toplady was not the friendliest of fellas (although he does have an IMDB page all of his own), and despite his bitter feud with the Wesleys, their theology aligned on the most unexpected subject.
This is one of those ones where you've got to hear to believe it!
